Tokyo: great shooting by GB’s Trap shots in qualification

Team GB’s Olympic Trap shooters have completed day 1 of qualification in Tokyo, with strong performances from Kirsty Hegarty in Women’s Trap, and Matt Coward-Holley (above) and Aaron Heading in Men’s Trap.

Kirsty shot 24, 24 and 23 ex-25 in her first three rounds, to finish day 1 on 71 ex-75, four targets behind the leader. She will need to finish tomorrow’s qualification in the top six to make the final and keep her chance of a medal alive.

In Men’s Trap, Matt Coward-Holley shot an impressive 24-24-25 finishing on 73 ex-75, just one target behind the leaders. Aaron Heading shot 23-22-24 to end on 69 ex-75.

Day 2 of qualification takes place tomorrow, Thursday 29 July, with the Women shooting at 9am Tokyo time, and Men at 9.50am.

Finals begin at 2.30pm – which is 6.30am UK time.
