As a keen rifle shooter and deer stalker, Ryan Charlton of Highland Outdoors has used a lot of binoculars, and he’s particularly impressed with the latest offering from German Precision Optics: the GPO Passion ED 8×32.
The first thing that catches his eye is the packaging. “It’s all recyclable, which is in line with GPO’s commitment to being responsible to the environment. In the box there’s a carry case, neck strap, lens covers and lens cloth – and the rather striking orange coloured binoculars,” he says.
“They’re not just lovely to look at, they’re also lovely to look through and to hold,” Ryan continues. He explains that the body is tough magnesium so it can take the inevitable knocks and bumps, and the rubberised orange finish gives added protection as well as a good grip.

“The ED glass gives you excellent contrast, wonderful edge to edge clarity, and it ensures you can see exceptional detail, whether it’s a long way away or really close. They’ve configured these so you can focus in as close as just six foot away,” Ryan says. He adds that the focus and diopter adjustment wheels are nice and smooth, making them easy and satisfying to use.
The binoculars are available at all Highland Outdoors stockists at a retail price of £419.99. As well as the orange/black colour featured, they are also available in black/black or green/black.
