Gavin Gardiner is auctioning a rare 8-bore patent bar-in-wood hammer gun. Gun expert Diggory Hadoke from VintageGuns.co.uk talks through the fowling piece, which has 34-inch damascus barrels with 3½-inch chambers, about ¼ and ¾ choke borings, top extension, the frame, rebounding bar locks, hammers and patent sliding top lever with fine scroll engraving and retaining some original hardening colour. Its 15¼-inch figured stock includes a leather covered recoil pad. Weight is 12lb 8oz, nitro re-proof, and it has its maker’s brassbound oak and leather case. Serial number of the gun is no 3138. Gavin’s guide price £12,000-£18,000.
