Hyena hunter hounded

A journalist from Jordan is under fire for vermin control. A video of Hayam Awad killing endangered striped hyena cubs has gone viral. It shows her crawling out of a hyena den in central Jordan dragging two cubs with her.

Sitting in front of the den, she says that she is in an area called Wadi Al Usood (valley of the lions) and that she has caught the animals to prevent attacks on cattle in the area. She then says: “So, what do you think!? Are they pretty?”. One of the cubs squeaks and Awad responds: “Are you challenging me?”

Jordan’s Royal Society for the Conservation of Nature says she has committed several crimes, including disturbing an animals’ den, animal cruelty and hunting an animal that it is illegal to possess, sell or display.
