Squirrels top US cyber security hitlist

Revealed: the most dangerous adversary the United States has faced, with no less than 879 attacks on American infrastructure, is the squirrel. According to the CyberSquirrel1.com website, squirrels top the list of animal disruption to electricity supplies and other utilities.

Birds come a poor second with 434 recorded incidents and snakes third at 83.

It’s a threat the US government has long known about. “I don’t think paralysis [of the electrical grid] is more likely by cyber attack than by natural disaster. And frankly the number-one threat experienced to date by the US electrical grid is squirrels,” said John C Inglis, former deputy director, National Security Agency back in 2015 (reports CyberSquirrel1.com)
