UK deer manager Paul Childerley is hunting moose in Swedish Lapland.
He came close to seeing one in Finland a few years ago. This time we’ve travelled inside the Arctic Circle during the rut so he has a greater chance of a close encounter, especially as top guide, Peter Johansson, is looking after him.
This is a conservation story. The local tourist board wants to attract more international hunters to save trees. It wants the local landowners to see the moose as a sustainable resource, instead of cutting down the forests for timber. Hunters preserve ecosystems.
