David Whitby manages a shooting estate in Sussex, looking after pheasants, partridges, deer – and he brings his work home with him. Living with him is a badger, a fallow doe, a raven and a long-suffering wife.

His love of wildlife also extends to the game on the estate, which he manages alongside other wildlife. He even encourages falconry, to help him dog in birds. In part 1 of The Headkeeper, meet Paul Worby and his goshawk Stella.

In part 2 of The Headkeeper, we witness one of the great wildlife spectacles in the world: one of the few fallow deer ‘leks’ that take place in October. Plus David talks about deer management and takes a friend deerstalking.
